Cement Repair

Tips and products for any cement repair job, big or small.

Depending on what type of fix you need to make on your cement surface, there is a cement repair product or process to get it done.   Cement repair products are used primarily to fix stains and cracks in cement surfaces.  Cement is very durable, but forces of nature have a way of breaking down any composition over time.

When garage slabs, basement floors or house foundations, settle, there is always going to be some movement on the molecular level.  As a result, sometimes cement is prone to cracking.  Just like roads need to be repaired over time, so do cement surfaces.  Yes, cement is incredibly durable and long lasting, but there are sometimes minor issues that need attending to on cement surfaces.

Cement repair products are not as easy to find as one would think.  Online, the process can be difficult if you are not searching for the right products.  Instead of finding the product you are looking for, you are often led to home remedies for cement repair instead.  That is not to say these home methods are not effective; we will discuss some of the best ones shortly.  But if you need to get a serious cement repair job done, you should consult the experts at a local hardware store.  Any Loews, Home Depot or other home improvement store will have the products you need.

Some of the more common cement products include adhesion products for cement cracks.  Most cement and concrete crack repair products are composed of an acrylic latex compound that is inserted in to the crack with a squeeze tube, similar to glue.  These products tend to dry quickly in nature, and are incredibly tough to remove from the skin.  Be sure when dealing with any cement repair product to wear long sleeves and protect your skin from exposure.   Quickrete is one brand that has a great line of concrete and cement repair products.

When it comes to removing stains from cement, it is a little harder to find a good brand of products to get the job done.  In this case, there are number of home remedies that can effectively get the job done.  Usually the necessary tools consist of brushes, water and other products that can be found around the house.  For rust stains, one effective method is to use a mixture of sodium citrate crystals and water, then apply the mixture on the surface of the rust stain.  After the mixture has settled, brush it off with a wire brush.  If you are attempting to move a grease or oil stain due to excessive leaking from a car in the garage, various methods are suggested, from dishwasher detergent to hydrochloric acid to tri-sodium phosphate.  Since several of these methods suggest using acids and extremely hazardous materials, it is not recommended unless you have experience and know what you are doing.

In any case, your best bet when it comes to cement repair products is to visit a local hardware store and get advice on which over the counter products to use.
